X1 ACCELERATOR

Through the X1 ACCELERATOR project, X1 Wind is working on the design and certification of its first commercial-scale product, the X90 platform for turbines in the 6MW range through the EU-funded X1 ACCELERATOR project. The objective is to develop a disruptive floating wind system to change the paradigm of the wind energy industry, that can be used to exploit sites located in deep waters.

The company received the support of the EIC Accelerator in 2021, to  accelerate the detailed design and certification process of its first commercial large-scale floating wind units. The X1 ACCELERATOR Project facilitated the entire process of designing commercial platforms, starting from the development of the part-scale prototype (X30) and progressing through the 6 MW pre-commercial platform (X90) to the creation of the preliminary industrialization plan for the 15MW+ commercial platforms (X150).

Given the competitiveness of this funding program (more than 4,000 applications with only a few selected firms), it represents a substantial recognition of the innovation and potential of our technology to disrupt the offshore wind industry.

Due to our efficient structure that eliminates bending moments at the tower base (with most of the structural elements working in tension and compression), our design is more suitable to be used with large scale turbines than the traditional design using vertical towers. Additionally, the downwind turbine eliminates the risk of the blades hitting the structure and thus eliminates the need for very stiff blades with large pre-bending, again making it very suitable for increasingly large turbines, allowing the use of longer and lighter blades and avoiding the use of expensive materials.
